Merivale has been a long-term Nightlife client, and when they took over the Rose Bay RSL, a community hub with more than a century of history, they transformed the traditional club into a fresh, destination venue. A key part of the redevelopment was delivering a respectful, contemporary version of The Ode.
While this was Merivale’s first venture into RSL clubs, Nightlife brought decades of experience working with RSLs across the country. By combining Merivale’s vision with up-to-the-minute music technology expertise, Nightlife helped bring the new Club Rose Bay experience to life.

A New Ode Experience
The number one priority was presenting The Ode in a respectful, inspirational, and uplifting way. The daily 6 PM ritual is a cornerstone of the venue’s tradition, and Club Rose Bay wanted it delivered with impact, professionalism, and sensitivity.
Merivale called in the big guns, including Russell Crowe, who delivered a spine-tingling reading that honoured the club’s legacy.
Nightlife worked closely with Merivale’s audio visual team on editing the recordings, timing of announcements, subtle audio cues and visual change-overs on screens to ensure every element fit seamlessly within the space. Nightlife integrated historically relevant visuals sourced from Rose Bay and the local area’s wartime archives, aligning them with subtitles and audio to create a powerful and respectful delivery of the daily Ode experience.
Carefully timed announcements ask guests to stand, giving The Ode a strong presence in the modern venue. The result is a consistent, poignant experience across all areas of the club, day after day.
The moment we heard Russell Crowe’s voiceover paired with the Rose Bay imagery and 1940s wartime visuals, it was clear something powerful had been created. We’re proud to have been part of delivering this, bringing together multiple recordings, timing, cues, visuals and subtitles so The Ode plays perfectly at 6 PM each day. Achieving this at the level Merivale expects required careful coordination and technical expertise, resulting in an experience that elevates the space while honouring its history.
