Grace Shaw is a Brisbane musician, rapper and singer who performs as Mallrat – and her latest track (‘Nobody’s Home’, with Basenji) is a Nightlife favourite.
Having only released her debut track in 2015 after leaving high school, Mallrat has exploded onto the international music scene. An American tour with Maggie Rogers, number 7 in the 2018 Triple J Hottest 100 and sold-out Australian tours have all been achieved off the back of just two EPs.
With this new single, Mallrat has pushed her alt-pop song writing even further.
“This song started as a voice memo, recorded in a bathroom in Japan, about a year and a half ago,” said Mallrat in an interview with Idolator. “My friend was sleeping in the next room so I turned on the shower and sung really quietly so that she wouldn’t hear me recording. About six months later I met up with Basenji in Sydney and the song started to take shape.”
