Aussie music a winner at Festival 2018

25 Apr 2018

Festival 2018 was the free arts and cultural program that ran alongside the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games across multiple Queensland cities. Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns all had free local programs running over the duration of Festival 2018 including crowdDJ® activations where visitors could choose the songs that played in between the live entertainment.

Now that the Games are over we’ve had a little look at the data to see which artists and songs came out on top and were pleasantly surprised by what we found.

Three acts tied for the top spot with the highest number of requests; local indie-pop act Sheppard, Melbourne soul sweetheart Meg Mac and Alaskan rock band Portugal. The Man.

The majority of the other top performers were Australian acts; Pnau, Men At Work, Vance Joy, Set Mo and Ocean Alley. triple j Unearthed artist Eves Karydas (who you may know by her former stage name Eves The Behavior) scored two entries with ‘There For You’ and ‘Further Than The Planes Fly’.

Compared to a typical crowdDJ activation, an unusually wide range of songs was chosen during Festival 2018 suggesting the crowd was diverse with a broad knowledge of music. Read more about our crowdDJ music curation for Festival 2018 here.

The celebration of Australian performers, artists, musicians and people was the essence of Festival 2018. It was a great complement to the live entertainment available throughout the Games that festival visitors chose to play so many songs by Aussie artists through crowdDJ.
