Nightlife Accountant Nikki Plastow started from the bottom… and now she’s leading her team in an exciting growth period for the company. Her love of music and numbers were a perfect match for us and coincidentally, we had a helping hand in her upcoming marriage!
What did your career look like pre-Nightlife?
I had just gotten back from living the London dream and was ready to advance my career. Accounting isn’t always an exciting career choice, but coming to Nightlife I was able to combine my love of music and numbers.
How long have you been a Nightlifer?
Exactly 8 years, 9 months and 24 days – which I could easily find out thanks to a great feature built into our internally developed CRM.
What were your career aspirations when you joined Nightlife, and how have these evolved over your time here?
Upon joining Nightlife my focus was to continue my accounting studies and obtain my chartered accounting membership. Having achieved that several years ago, I have been working on mentoring and supporting my team.
What roles have you undertaken in your time here and how has your role evolved over your time at Nightlife?
Over the past 8 years my role has changed as I have grown both professionally and with my Nightlife knowledge; having started at the bottom to now leading my team. The best thing about how my role has evolved is that I’m not your standard accountant. Working at Nightlife has allowed me to be so much more.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m proud of becoming well rounded; my role means I cannot just focus on the numbers, I have to be able to understand sales strategies, stock and how to work with software programmers to get the most out of our internal CRM. I am also very proud that I am part of the royalties and public performance reporting and repatriation, which means that artists are being paid for their music.
What are the most enjoyable things about your role?
There’s a few!
– Being everyone’s favourite person once a fortnight (when I pay them). When I started there were 64 staff, currently we have 110!
– Having been at Nightlife for so long, I’ve been able to see so much growth and it’s a pretty exciting time to be a Nightlifer! When I started we had 1,430 clients and this has now grown to more than 4,000.
– I get to listen to music all day!
– Having seen the development of some pretty cool products. I always use crowdDJ® when I’m out and about.
– Creating graphs!
What are your goals for the future?
Running the New York office.
What’s the funniest moment / stand out story from your time at Nightlife?
It’s pretty awesome that my fiancé was once a Nightlifer – thank you Nightlife cupid! There have been so many stories over the past almost 9 years; making a mess of the kitchen on ice cream Mondays, breaking the juicer and ruining juice Mondays, Christmas parties, band camps, staff picnics, but also just the day-to-day working relationships I have built with wonderful people.
