Account Manager Andrew Kong has seen some massive changes come through the business in his ten years with us at Nightlife. His career has evolved alongside the company and our products so we thought it was high time to interview him.
When and why did you start working for Nightlife?
I started working for Nightlife shortly after I finished uni. It was actually the first job that I really wanted to apply for. I thought it’d be an interesting place to work – I mean who doesn’t like music?! The rest as they say is history.
As a Nightlife Account Manager, what does a typical day involve?
Liaising with the different departments internally at Nightlife to ensure we’re effectively servicing our clients at all levels and communicating this back to the key decision makers externally.
You’re one of our longer term employees having been here for 10 years now.. It would be safe to say your role and Nightlife has evolved over time – what changes have you noticed most, particularly in moving to your current role?
The introduction of our online tools and apps has certainly been one of the biggest changes I’ve seen at Nightlife. They have allowed us to support our clients in an extremely efficient manner and give our clients more control than ever over the music and visuals in their venues. The Account Manager role calls for someone with high level client relationship and project management skills, technical expertise and musical knowledge. These are quite unique traits to have so I’ve had to hone these skills over time.
What’s the coolest experience that’s happened because of your job here?
We recently signed up a cruise ship partner in Europe and I was given the opportunity to fly over there to show the team on board all that Nightlife has to offer. I also got to spend some personal time while I was over there which was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back!
Our office is located in Milton, an inner city Brisbane suburb with great train and bus connections. But you get to work a different way; we’ve happened to assemble a bit of a motorcycle crew at Nightlife! When did you get into riding bikes?
A good friend of mine introduced me to the world of motorcycles 3 years ago. I’ve always had a thing for fast cars so it was only a matter of time! It makes for an exciting commute to work and really wakes me up in the morning.
You’re also a keen DJ. What do you love about it and what’s your favourite genre to play?
Music can really set the mood for a room and I love seeing people having a great time and enjoying the tunes I’m playing. The most rewarding experience a DJ can have is being thanked at the end of the night when they’ve finished their set. I try not to pigeon hole myself into any one particular genre however Disco is definitely my favourite genre to play out as it’s just so damn groovy!
Currently listening to: Defected Radio
A recent trip to Ibiza has renewed my love of house music. I’m currently listening to Defected Radio, a weekly radio show featuring guest mixes from the world’s top house DJs. House music all night long!
Groovy! Thanks Andrew.
