As a Senior Music Programmer for Nightlife, Nick Jones has a job that those passionate about music would love to have. On a daily basis he sources and previews content from musicians and visuals artists from all-over the world, curating the best content for our clients. What many don’t know is that Nick is also a Radio Announcer after hours, on 4ZZZ 102.1FM.
We sat the Englishman down to ask him some questions…
When and why did you start working for Nightlife?
I started at Nightlife in May 2016, after working most of my adult life in either Government or Insurance positions. I was trying to find a role that allowed me to fulfil my passion for music and I was fortunate enough to land a job at Nightlife!
Coolest experience that’s happened because of your job?
Working at BIGSOUND 2016 and 2017, and DJing the opening party at Bakery Lane.
Who else works in your team? Tell us what they do?
Our team has recently merged with the Licensing Department, so we now cover audio & visual content, licensing, new agreements, royalties… and more!
After hours you work as an announcer for 4ZZZ 102.1FM. Best band/artist you ever interviewed?
Earlier in the year I spoke with WAAX, who are an up and coming Brisbane band. This may not sound like much now but they are absolutely destined for much bigger things, so it’s great to be able to speak to a band when they’re on their way up.
What advice have you got for others wanting to work in the music industry?
Network – sometimes even knowing a friend of a friend is enough. For example, I got an interview here through my partner meeting someone at a wedding!
Nightlife’s crowdDJ® app lets you choose your music in many of Australia’s best venues. Where’s your fave place to crowdDJ?
Bavarian Beer Café, Eagle Street Pier. It is always busy, with a great mixture of people who are engaged with crowdDJ. Plus the views are pretty good!
What’s the one music quote that you live by?
“You don’t have to be great to be successful. Look at Phil Collins.” – Noel Gallagher
Thanks for your time Nick!
