LIST INTRODUCTION: JAZZ

Having recognised that no two venues are the same, your friendly music team have introduced a new list this month that will assist in further fulfilling your jazz needs.

As you know, we already have a jazz list called CAFÉ_JAZZ. Having refined its playability even further, this list will continue to provide you with the smoothest jazz sounds to create the perfect atmosphere in fine dining and equally sophisticated venues. It’s specifically designed to remove all the intrusive bits and pieces that often slip into jazz music i.e. extreme peaks in instrumentation, incredible lows in tempo and of course, the vocals that, while often are brilliant, can intrude a little in these particular environments. What you’re left with is the finest selection of cool jazz to perfectly complement your surroundings. Some of the artists you will find in this list might include Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk etc.

The new list is called JAZZ. Sure, the name may be slightly predictable but that’s the intention, to keep it simple. It is designed to support the needs of a venue that may not necessarily be jazz connoisseurs but still need all those warm favourites across all eras. This makes it perfect for that bistro that needs an easy listening environment but doesn’t mind hearing occasional contemporary tracks from the likes of Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum and Harry Connick Jr or the brilliance of the great crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Ella Fitzgerald, to name just a few.

If you’d like to know more about the above or take advantage of either of these lists, please feel free to contact our Customer Support Team on 1800 773 468.

AT YOUR SERVICE!

Install new music at anytime without disruption to your venue...

Nightlife’s programming team has been working hard to release their very latest software version to you. One of the great new features is the option to install your new music without disturbing the music currently playing in your venue.

If you’d like to have this option as a default for installing your music DVD ROMs, call our Client Service Team for a system health check and to ensure you have this feature activated.

NB. It is important when using this feature that you make sure your update discs are cleaned each time before installing music onto the system. Dirty discs can cause corruption on the system files therefore it is good practice to clean the disc first before installing.

Tip! Toggle between the “main HDMS™ screen” and the “installing music screen” by using the Ctrl_H and Ctrl_I keys.

Nightlife supplies music to Australia's Best Pub!

The recent Australian Liquor Industry awards that were held in Sydney saw one of Nightlife’s clients, the Story Bridge Hotel in Brisbane, take out the prestigious Hotel Of The Year Award For 2007!

Hotels were judged on their unique attributes, staff, service, the quality of the food and drinks and atmosphere. Music + Media are critical to building this atmosphere and we’re proud to be a provider of this service to the hotel.

At 120 years old, the pub competed against some of the biggest hotels in the country including Sydney’s The Golden Sheaf, The Lion in Adelaide and The Shore Club, Sydney. “The ‘Bridge faced off against some of the best pubs in the country and came out on top which is fantastic for us, and for Brisbane as a booming cosmopolitan city,” owner Richard Deery said.

“To beat out these other finalists, not to mention the calibre of hotels who didn’t make it to the finals, is a coup and we are immensely proud of all of our staff and family here at the ‘Bridge.”

Formerly a bomb shelter bar, the Story Bridge Hotel has now been transformed into a trendy inner-metro hub. Australia Day is particularly intriguing for first time visitors at the hotel as they host their annual cockroach races. Having said that, being so close to the Gabba stadium, it’s also a place for sports fans to gather.

Nightlife Music + Video would like to congratulate the staff and management of the Story Bridge Hotel on winning this award. We are proud to be in association with you.

VENUE PROFILE

Tomba's Niteclub

Queensland’s great south east is accelerating when it comes to late night entertainment and the state’s ‘Garden City’ Toowoomba is certainly not lacking a club scene.

Toowoomba is a 120km scenic drive west of Brisbane and in this picturesque town on the crest of the Great Dividing Range you’ll find the locally famed Tomba’s Niteclub. Tomba’s will keep you entertained with the freshest beats in electro, house, club and RnB music.

You can find yourself in one of three bars, including the chilled out house bar or the comfy cocktail lounge and club room with it’s own huge dance floor. Somewhere there you’ll be sure to find your own spot to bust the moves of your choice.

Variety is of course the spice of life and so Tomba’s DJ Jyrator will mix it up playing music that ranges from café and funky house to dirty electro, aided by a Nightlife DJ Pro Multi Zone system. Jyrator rates the DJ Pro system pretty high with its mixability and is liking the multitude of songs to choose from.

When in Toowoomba check out how DJ Jyrator and the DJ Pro work the crowd on Friday and Saturday nights at Tomba’s Niteclub, 12 Russell Street, (1st Floor) Toowoomba.

MUSIC MUSE FOR YOUR VENUE

KANYE WEST – ‘The Good Life’ (Universal)

Having released one of the greatest albums of 2007 and crushing 50 Cent in the album-sales war along the way, Kanye West follows up the excellent ‘Stronger’ with another party anthem declaring why his life is so good. With its luxury-soul sound and an excellent sample of Michael Jackson’s ‘PYT’, ‘The Good Life’ musically exemplifies the settling in to a life of wealth and leisure all delivered with Kanye’s trademark tongue in cheek style. Featuring the man himself and featured guest T-Pain, the video is exceptional and was directed by Jonas & Francis, the team behind MTV Video Music Award winner ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ by Justice.

TIMBALAND F/ONEREPUBLIC – ‘Apologise’ (Universal)

In reality, this song seems more like a OneRepublic song remixed by Timbaland than it is his own as an artist. However, it will guarantee incredible exposure for OneRepublic, a MySpace favourite signed to Timba’s Mosley Music Group. Don’t let the marketing tactics put you off, ‘Apologise’ is one of the most beautiful mainstream pop tracks of the year with Timbaland contributing an airy vibe that echoes the feel of Nelly Furtado’s ‘Say It Right’. Aside from that, the song has already made history in Australia by becoming the first track to hit the ARIA chart with sales based solely on digital sales (and not including physical). Debuting at number 10, the track is one of two in the top 10 – the other being ‘The Way I Are’ sitting pretty in the number one slot.

MikaDAN LE SAC VS SCROOBIUS PIP – ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’
(Central Station)

Remember Morrissey? Of course you do, the man could sing a newspaper and he’d make it sound like fine literature. Now Scroobius Pip and beatmaker Dan Le Sac have been startling audiences across the world with the danceable commandments and highly quotable laptop poetry. On the brilliant ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’, the duo hit a nerve or two by slagging off Coke, Nestle and UK magazine NME all delivered somewhere between spoken word, rap and biblical brimstone over a lo-fi electronic production.

BAT FOR LASHES – ‘What’s A Girl To Do?’ (Virgin)

Bat For Lashes is the creation of Natasha Khan, a Pakistan-born, Brighton-based songwriter who has just released a brilliant record by the name of Fur And Gold, an ethereal, cinematic, fantastical album that was recently nominated for the coveted Mercury Award (actually won by Klaxons). As beguiling as Bjork, as stunning as Sinead O’Connor and as dramatic as Kate Bush, it is her voice that dominates these mature and gothic sounds that are for those willing to be whisked off to a beautiful faraway land.
