ARE YOU GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR HDMST?
One venue, two rooms, very different styles, what’s the solution? Nightlife’s Multi-Zone HDMS™. Some may ask, “What is Multi-Zone?” It is the ability to play a diverse selection of music in various areas of a venue (zones) simultaneously. This means you can customise your music to suit the specific areas of operation and target the patronage within these individual zones. The HDMS™ can Multi-Zone your music to two or more rooms and can be configured with up to four independent music channels, allowing you to entertain a variety of customer demographics by delivering music independently to multiple zones.
Your venue and the various operational areas within your venue are unique. Nightlife can customise both the music and systems configuration to suit your space specifically.
Putting it into context, a main bar area of a standard venue generally draws on upbeat foreground music utilised primarily as entertainment for this area attracting a particular crowd. The dining area on the other hand, has a need for background, easy listening, mood music to allow for its diners to enjoy their meal.
Another example is a sports bar may play music to suit an older demographic on one side and on the other plays to an upmarket lounge crowd. For nightclubs, the DJ Pro Multi-zone is your best bet. You can finally have full nightclub beat mixing and still have a second audio zone playing all in the one computer!
Brisbane’s Chalk Hotel makes great use of the Multi-Zone HDMS™. Their zones are divided into rooms and each has an individual feel and tone.
Downstairs in the Sticks Restaurant audio only music is played, consisting of a refined selection of exquisite dining and lounge music with various ethnic influences from around the world mixed with traditional jazz. This provides a very relaxed and distinguished atmosphere to match the environment and the amazing menu selection to create an overall product.
The Chalk Hotel, Brisbane
Upstairs in Stumps Bar a general cross section varying from easy listening during the day to upbeat bar music which includes an injection of rock influences whilst the neighbouring Dust Lounge plays a selection of funky lounge through to electronic dance.

WILL.I.AM – ‘I Got It From My Mama’ (Universal) CX137, JX121, DX70
If the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘My Humps’ was the kind of track to float your boat, then you will positively dig the new single from head-Pea Will.I.Am’s new third solo album. Will has never been too successful on the solo front but with the Peas, he has experienced fame that only the wildest dreams are made of. And that’s not mentioning the seemingly endless string of hit singles that he has produced not only for his group but also for everybody from Justin Timberlake and Diddy to Fergie, John Legend and Pussycat Dolls. And even that’s not mentioning the fact that he’s working alongside Michael Jackson on his much-anticipated comeback. This single will undoubtedly continue his reign as producer/performer-supreme and will divide music fans right down the middle with its nonsensical Fergie-esque melody and infectious hook.
SPOON – ‘The Underdog’ (Virgin) RX137
Spoon have been kicking along just dandily for the last 13 years, forging their own path in the music scene and dragging a massive fan base along the way. The first single from the band’s sixth album – Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga – is the excellent ‘The Underdog.’ Produced by the ever-so-talented-and-incredibly-busy John Brion, this track is arguably one of the best Spoon songs ever recorded. It has more hooks than a pirate ship and is a bit of an ode to all Spoon fans that ever felt down and out. Furthermore, whether intentional or not, it sounds like a message to the President: “You got no time for the messenger/Got no regard for the thing that you don’t understand/You got no fear of the underdog/That’s why you will not survive.” Whether it’s a political statement or simply an ode to the constantly overlooked, ‘The Underdog’ is already an early favourite for one of the singles of the year.
VANESSA AMOROSI – ‘Kiss Your Mama’ (Universal) CX137, RX137, JX121
Comeback ahoy! Remember Vanessa Amorosi? She’d be the one with the powerhouse-sized set of vocal chords that tore out what was almost the anthem of Sydney 2000 - ‘Absolutely Everydody’. Well she’s back with a new record deal, a brand new single and she’s ditched the squeaky clean girl next door image of old. ‘Kiss Your Mama’ is a piece of pop/rock gold with more than enough “na na na na’s” and outright sass that should see her reclaim her place atop the pop diva pile.
BLOC PARTY – ‘Hunting For Witches’ (Shock) RD137
Incredible, amazing and awesome have all been words loosely thrown around to describe these British troopers, but after their stellar set at Splendour In The Grass and what can only be described as a career highlight, these words simply don’t do them justice. ‘Hunting For Witches’ is the third single from their exceptional second album A Weekend In The City and sees the band at their frantic best, delivering an urgent rock anthem about the recent acts of terrorism in the UK. Sadly, the video doesn’t feature frontman Kele Okereke perched on the roof of his house with a shotgun and a six pack of beer (as described in the lyrics) but nevertheless it’s still a corker.
INTRODUCING DJ DREW
Heading out in Darwin? If you find yourself at the Honey Pot Gentlemen’s Club, you’ll likely hear tunes like Destination Calabria by Alex G pumping courtesy of the freshly appointed DJ DREW.
A DJ from way back in high school, 25 year old DJ DREW (Drew Mason) progressed through playing small clubs in country towns in Western Australia. Naturally, as a highlight of DJ’ing he “likes to see people enjoying themselves while they are in the club”.
Ever the attentive bartender as well, he just enjoys “meeting new people every night,” so his nights are never dull.
Relishing golf, motor racing, fishing, water sports and the festival scene in the daylight hours and of course clubbing, I mean “researching the industry”, in the wee hours.
As a new user to the Nightlife HDMS™, he loves “that you don’t have to carry in all of your music every night and you can find any of the songs quickly”.

Creating Music Lists for Special Events
Nightlife Music + Video provides our clients with a wide variety of music lists across many genres to cover a large cross section of tastes. Even so there may be times when it’s necessary for a venue to create their own music lists. For example, if your venue is planning a theme night or if you are hosting a special celebration such as a 21st birthday party. In this instance you may want to create your own user list.
As an example, consider you are hosting a 1980s revival night for which you will need 1980s music playing all throughout the evening. You can set up your own music lists dedicated to 1980s music and then schedule that list in your scheduler to play on the night.
• Go to Lists and press [Enter];
• Arrow down to Create User List and press [Enter];
• Use your left arrow key to go to the Search menu and press [Enter];
• It is possible to search for songs using a few methods such as song title, artist name, category etc. For the purpose of this exercise it would be useful to search All Songs. Press [Enter] on All Songs;
• The songs are displayed by Release Date by default. Press the [Page Down] button until you find songs released in the 1980s;
• Select the songs for your list by using the up and down arrow keys to highlight the song, then press [Enter]. A small cross will appear in the far left column to indicate your selection;
• When you have finished selecting your songs press [Esc] three times and you will be prompted to name the list. “Please Enter List Name?” will appear in purple text at the bottom of the monitor;
• Type in a name for the list, eg “1980s Night” and press [Enter];
• The cursor will move to the box “Description”. Type a further description of the list in this box eg “1980s Revival Night”and press [Enter];
• Press [Esc] to escape out of all menus;
• You can then insert your list into the scheduler to automatically play at a particular time on the night;
• Alternatively use the [F9] key to load up the list. Be aware that 100 of the songs in your list will be selected to play and at the end of those 100 songs, will revert to playing music in the scheduler which may be unsuitable for your event.
It is important to know that the User Lists you create for special events are not automatically populated with new music from the disk you receive from Nightlife every fortnight. For this reason we recommend that you delete the user list out of your scheduler after your special event. For further assistance or information call the Client Services Team on 1800 773 468.
