MAY 07 NIGHTLIFE NEWS

NIGHTLIFE'S JUKEBOX

JukeboxGiving customers the ability to choose their own music could be disastrous. There is the potential for one person to select a song that alienates the rest of the crowd and ruins the environment you’ve worked hard to create.

Nightlife’s Jukebox avoids this problem by letting customers choose their own songs BUT only from the list of songs you feel is suitable for that time of the day. Our jukebox is driven by the HDMS™ software which allows you to program the jukebox to display different lists of music to match the mood you are trying to create in your venue. Any style of music you feel is inappropriate for that specific hour of the day will not be displayed. This means that the music will always be right – whether it’s programmed by you or chosen by a customer through the jukebox.

Unlike a traditional jukebox, Nightlife updates your music library every fortnight so that you are always up to date with the latest songs to hit the charts, giving your venue that competitive edge. With fresh songs in your jukebox, a selection of music styles chosen by you and your customers choosing their fav beats from that list, your Nightlife Jukebox has the potential to be a comprehensive money making machine.

Speaking of money, you keep 100% of your Nightlife Juke’s takings! And with our lifetime fixed price warranty on all equipment, backed by a 24 hour 7 day a week toll-free tech support hotline, you can be assured that the system will always be working for you. Here’s what some of our customers have to say:

Coogee Bay Hotel - Coogee, NSW

The Nightlife + Music Video Jukebox is very easy to use! It has a good selection of music and everything including monitoring the volume of the music playing in the venue can be operated from the main office. We like the fact that we have total control over the jukebox and the music that plays in the venue. We can tailor it to suit the various crowds and create the desired mood easily. It is also very popular with the customers and gets a lot of use as it gives them the freedom to choose songs they want to play as well. The Nightlife Jukebox allows us to save on other entertainment costs and we are able to easily access and fix any problems quickly ourselves on site.

Uni Pub - Civic, ACT

When asked what I liked about the Nightlife Music + Video Jukebox my first response was “I love it”. This product has definitely helped to increase the revenue for our business and we would be lost without it.

Mount Isa Irish Association - Mount Isa, Qld

The best thing about the Nightlife Music + Video Jukebox is its simplicity– it is just so easy for both staff and customers to use. We have replaced our previous CD jukebox with the Nightlife Hard Drive Music System (HDMS™) and have not once encountered any of the problems we used to have.

MUSIC MUSE FOR YOUR VENUE

KATE MILLER-HEIDKE - 'Words' (Sony BMG) CX134, RX134, JX118

Lifted from her hugely anticipated debut album Little Eve, ‘Words’ is the new single from Australia’s latest female household name. Famed for her jaw-dropping live performances, Kate has already experienced massive independent success thanks to two self-financed EPs – Circular Breathing and Telegram – and some subsequent airplay on Triple J and Nova. With its brilliantly off-kilter verses paving the way for a right killer of a chorus, ‘Words’ is a surefire radio hit that is as experimental as it is accessible.

SMALL MERCIES – ‘Innocent’ (Sony BMG) RX134

Another up and coming Aussie act with “big” written all over them is Brisbane’s Small Mercies, a band seemingly plucked from nowhere and destined for the spotlight. Dubbing themselves a classic rock band for the modern era, their debut single ‘Innocent’ bristles with a mood of instant familiarity, chiming choruses, shimmering guitars and an explosive bottom end; all of which are fronted by a young voice fit to fill arenas, stadiums and the airwaves.

JAMIE T – ‘Calm Down Dearest’ (EMI) CX134

This English geezer follows his debut Aussie single ‘If You Got The Money’ with this undeniably infectious number from his album Panic Prevention. You’d think this song was recorded in a pub just after closing hours: you can’t really understand what the lyrics are and if you work them out, they really make no sense. However, the song has a catchy tune attached to it and sounds like a typical lads’ night out in a bar where they find a girl and then tell her to calm down when something goes wrong.

KELLY ROWLAND F/ EVE ‘Like This’ (Sony BMG) CX134

For all of you who thought the two former members of Destiny’s Child not named Beyonce would fall off the face of the planet after the group broke up, Kelly Rowland’s out to prove you wrong. With a video that rivals her former bandmate in the sexy stakes, ‘Like This’ is the first single from her second solo album Ms Kelly and is produced by man of the moment Polow Da Don (Fergie’s ‘London Bridge’ and Ludacris’ ‘Pimpin’ All Over The World’).

WIN

“The Basics is what happens when Sting and whoever’s left of the Beatles get together at Mick Jagger’s pad for beers and one of them has the brilliant idea to pool their creative genius into an album choccas with old school 60s rock stylings”.
That’s just one of the rave reviews about Melbourne’s favourite new rock act, The Basics, who, after years of training are ready to step up to the plate with the debut album Stand Out/Fit In.

“You want to know what we sound like? Well, you get a bunch of great songs, a bit of rock, a lot of soul, and some guys who love playing music together and you tell me what it sounds like!” states bassist/vocalist Kris Schroeder.

“Fitting in seems to be about having the ‘it’ sound or the flavour-of-the-month haircut in the music business and yeah, we could do that, but we like a challenge so we’re going to prove that you can stand out in the simplest of ways - write great songs, and stick them through your ears and into your head!”

Commitment has never been a question with The Basics - touring, writing and recording all play a part in what they signed up for at the musical gate. With melody pumping through their veins and creativity spilling out into other projects (drummer/vocalist Wally De Backer alter-egos as Triple J favourite Gotye), The Basics are here for good, whether they Stand Out OR Fit In.

Thanks to Australian Music Biz, we have five copies of Stand Out/Fit In to give away. To nab a copy, just email us at music@nightlife.com.au and tell us what name drummer/vocalist Wally De Backer is also known as.

NEWS FROM NZ FOR NZ

Hard to believe it’s nearly the end of May already, with the All Blacks international matches, the Tri-Nations and the Rugby World Cup gradually sneaking up on us. With games being broadcast at a variety of times and days, making the transition from the Party atmosphere to a Sport atmosphere and back again, is going to require some good planning. What a great time to look at investing in some permanent billboard advertising screens, which can be positioned around your venue without interrupting your music or sport screens. For more information on how to do this, don’t hesitate to contact Nightlife, our graphics department is only too happy to discuss your needs and work out the best way of helping you.

Also, keep in mind that DJ Tools was launched last month. DJ Tools is a selection of acapella, instrumental and sample audio clips which can be used in conjunction with your current music playlist. They are just plain cool, and can be used in a variety of entertaining and inventive ways to enhance your music program. Again, let us know if we can help get you setup with these.

Of course, May has another meaning in New Zealand, with May officially dubbed NZ Music Month to spotlight the wealth of talent within our shores. To celebrate this occasion, why not incorporate a couple of Kiwi song sets into your set list: for example, use Dave Dobbyns “Loyal” and the Exponents “Why Does Love Do This To Me” to get the crowd singing along, then head into the Exponents “Who Loves Who The Most” and Push Pushs “Tripping” or Tadpoles “Alright” to get them dancing, before moving into some great dance music. The wealth of Kiwi artists on the HDMS™ doesn’t stop there - Elemeno P, the Black Seeds, Scribe, Fast Crew, Crowded House and Steriogram have all got some great clips to get your Friday or Saturday night crowd going. Make sure you check it out!

Lastly, as always, remember to send in your feedback forms! Have a great month!

5. In the Message column, check for an entry that reads “Installing Program”
