A HDMST BUILT FOR YOU!

The HDMS™ - 100% designed and manufactured in Brisbane, Australia is also exported to the USA & NZ.  In 2006, to cope with demand we gave our manufacturing and despatch facilities a major facelift.  The facilities are now capable of producing...
150 HDMS’ built from start to finish each month. And, with so much volume, every effort is made to ensure strong attention to detail. Here’s how your HDMS™ was made.

Source materials and the hardware building: Starting with a combination of brand-name computer components (like AMD, MSI, GeForce, Soundblaster), and Nightlife-designed parts, your HDMS™ starts off as one of 12 in a production run; itself one of up to 6 concurrent production runs underway in our new workshop. Assembly is carried out to exacting standards with our experienced team carefully fitting the parts into a specially modified computer case. Within three days of starting the run your HDMS™ is ready to power-on for the first time.

Software, music building and testing:  Before it can operate and run, the operating software is meticulously set-up, a process which takes a full day with customised BIOS and Windows settings loaded before the HDMS™ software itself is configured. A series of tests are then carried out on your HDMS™ with the three hard-drives being extensively scanned, the video output checked and the audio output measured through an oscilloscope. Your HDMS™ is then tested for up to a week and monitored daily before the run is signed off as completed and handed over for a series of Quality Assurance checks.

The first QA is primarily focussed on ensuring all the hardware has been correctly installed and functions as it should along with a check of the key software settings. The second QA is a visual check of the hardware and a complete audit of the software configuration. After this the music and video clips are updated from our most recent database, and the audio output is checked again on the oscilloscope.

Customisation: At this point your HDMS™ is still identical to the other 11 in the run, but that’s about to change. For the final stage your system will be moved into another area where it is assembled with all the hardware specific to your order. The purpose of this is to duplicate exactly what will soon be installed in your venue.

Working off the music schedule to suit your venue’s demographics (created and fine-tuned by a dedicated Project Manager), the system is now fully customised to suit you. The level of customisation is such that no two systems prepared here are identical, so what this means is that your HDMS™ is a music management product that meets the needs of your venue and your customers. Prior to dispatch your Project Manager will personally perform a final Quality Assurance check to ensure everything is exactly as they have arranged with you, and finally it is packed up and ready for the courier. Nightlife welcomes client visits to the building, contact us on 1800 773 468 as we’d love to show you around and give you the tour.

WELCOME TINA: NIGHTLIFE'S GM

Hi my name is Tina Smith-Roberts and I am very pleased to be one of the newest members of the Nightlife team. I have joined the company in the capacity of General Manager and my focus over the next few months will be on the products and services we deliver but also on the people who make this company great.

Nightlife is a company committed to its external clients and staff it employs. My passion has always been in building extraordinary workplaces for extraordinary people. This has been demonstrated through my previous role as General Manager within the education field, taking a company from 50 to 220 dedicated and committed employees and I’m looking forward to carrying this passion on at Nightlife.

Nightlife’s core business is in delivering timely high quality music products and with over 1000 venues subscribing to our services we are constantly developing and improving our product. My motto is “if you are happy with our product tell your friends, if you are unhappy tell us”. I’m looking forward to working side by side with you to continue to provide an outstanding music solution for your venue and listening to any suggestions that would help make our product even better for you to use in your venue. 2007 is going to be an exciting time for Nightlife and I am happy to be part of the growth.

NEWS FROM NZ

Well, we’re a 12th of the way through the year and it looks set to be a busy one!

The action gets underway earlier than usual this year: the Super 14 kicking off on February 2nd, with the Blues and Crusaders going head to head in the first game of the season. With 22 key All Blacks out of the Super 14 for the first 8 rounds, the competition should be hotter than usual, with the 5 Kiwi teams jockeying for position before they return. Why not take advantage by stocking your system with some great animated, still or fully customised advertising billboards? Billboards can be run on a separate video screen (or chain of screens) to your main sports or music video, and the images and flash animations are easy to load on the system, enhancing the events and promotions running in your venue. For more information, simply pick up the phone and give us a call - we’re happy to help.

On that note, if you are wanting to keep track of the key events for the year, we are able to provide you with an official NZ Nightlife Music + Video events planner! Our events planner is 990mm x 700mm in black & white, and includes all dates for the Super 14, the 2007 Rugby World Cup, the 2007 Tri-Nations, the 2007 Cricket World Cup, as well as the All Blacks and Black Caps international games, Bathurst 2007, and a plethora of other notable dates that are ideal for tying in some fun promotions around. If you are interested, the cost is minimal - call us now to get yours!

In the NZ music scene things are fairly quiet this month, but keep an eye out for new videos from the likes of the Black Seeds, Fat Freddys Drop and Crowded House - and remember to keep sending in your DJ feedback forms!

INTRODUCING DJ HAYDEN

With a love of music, games and computers it’s no surprise DJ Hayden, aka Hayden Naughton stumbled into DJing. It all began with a one-off stint at a wedding when he was just 16, but the experience wasn’t at all pleasant. His dislike for the art of DJing left him feeling sure he would never pursue it again.

A year later someone heard Hayden had dabbled in DJing and asked him to fill a DJ spot in a city nightclub. This experience was much more exciting and soon Hayden was DJing for crowds of 800 people.

These days you can find Hayden mixing beats with the Nightlife HDMS™ at Scu-Bar down in Bendigo. So what does Hayden think about Nightlife? “The Nightlife team has been outstanding for the last 6 years.”

While he’s not at the Scu-Bar, Hayden is also a breakfast show DJ/Production Manager. His favourite song of all time is ‘Delerium’  by Silence (Tiesto Sunrise Mix). His current favourite song is ‘Proper Education’ by Eric Prydz.

When asked who the one person he’d like to meet is, Hayden replied with, “Jamie Oliver. The passion and love he has for his craft is absolutely amazing. He’s also a bedroom DJ.”

AT YOUR SERVICE

This month we continue our series on Jukebox programming and look into the different jukebox modes available. These modes combine with the Jukebox selection sets discussed last month to help you choose the right balance between maximizing your Jukebox takings and maintaining the ambience created by the music.

The Jukebox Program modes are: Fill the Gaps, Intermittent and Juke Only.

Firstly, let’s see what each of these modes offer:

Fill the gaps – Fill the gaps works in conjunction with your scheduler, and will play background music of your choice when customers are not selecting music from the jukebox.  This mode provides continuous music to maintain an atmosphere in the venue.

Intermittent – This mode will play background songs intermittently (at specified intervals) between songs selected from Jukebox by your customers.  The time between intermittent background songs can be set anywhere up to 10 minutes apart.  This mode helps entice patrons to use the jukebox but you need to be careful with this mode as no music could be playing for up to 10 minutes.

Juke Only – This mode will only play songs selected and paid for on the jukebox by your customers.  It will not play any background music.  The atmosphere of the venue here is wholly driven by the selections from the jukebox and there will be no music if songs are not selected from the jukebox.

You can define which mode of operation the jukebox defaults to in the scheduler using the Juke selection sets we spoke about last month.  If you would like to look at which mode your jukebox is set to or need help changing to another mode to maximise takings please call the Client Services team on 1800 773 468 for help.
