JANUARY 07 NIGHTLIFE NEWS

DIVERSITY AT NIGHTLIFE

As 2007 begins, Nightlife welcomes the year with fresh enthusiasm and determination. With a clientele of over 1000 venues to our name, 2007 is sure to be yet another great year. Nightlife’s comprehensive music catalogue allows us to cater to a variety of venue types, so this month we thought we’d show the diversity of Nightlife with some examples.

Palm Court Hotel - Wollongong (Hotel/Nightclub)
In the beachside suburb of Corrimal, the Palm Court Hotel offers an array of entertainment options. The newly reopened nightclub utilises the Nightlife DJ Pro system, providing DJ’s with an archive of music videos at their fingertips with pitch control to allow full music video beatmixing.

AMF - Randwick (Bowling Centre)
Bowling centres cater to a broad range of different customers throughout each day and night. The Nightlife system allows AMF Randwick to match their music programming to changes in their demographics. Traditionally bowling centres are recognised as family friendly environments and Nightlife’s team of music programmers provide a number of lists to choose from to ensure that the music is always appropriate.

Aurora Hotel - Surry Hills (Inner City Hotel)
The Thomas Hotel Group have recently completed a large scale redevelopment of this iconic inner city hotel. Nightlife has worked closely with group mangement to provide a music solution that is complimentary to the contemporary decore of their upstairs lounge bar and stunning roof-top bar. Using a multi-zone system the Aurora Hotel also caters to the music tastes of patrons in the sports focused public bar on the ground floor.

Zen Hair - Carina (Hair and Beauty Salon)
This FUNKY new metropolitan salon offers customers an array of modern beauty treatments, products & services and incorporates the HDMS™ into the mix. The salon uses the  HDMS™ to program upbeat music to entertain their customers and use the video capabilities to visually enhance their visit. The advertising capabilities of the HDMS™ have also been put to great use to communicate an array of information, new products, special offers, even various hair styles! It truly is direct marketing at its best.

Nambour RSL (RSL Club)
Having undergone a major and very impressive renovation, the Nambour RSL saw that a key factor in being successful was having the right music and atmosphere in their venue as well as utilising the video advertising capabiliteis of the HDMS™.  This venue boasts a volume of plasma screens which serve as an effective communication channel to its members & guests. The advertising programing covers everything from membership renewals, to functions, to very enticing high definition graphics of meal specials available in the coffee shop, changed regularly and easily, whilst alternate screens display the relative music video.  The HDMS™ plays the Ode daily as well. This is no ordinary RSL, times are changing.

NEWS FROM NZ

And just like that 2006 is over and 2007 kicks off in fine style for Nightlife New Zealand!

First up is the 2007 Heineken NZ Men’s Tennis Open, with Nightlife supplying the entertainment at the Heineken Hotel, an onsite bar where “attendees can get a freshly poured Heineken on tap, share some fine international food with friends, and experience the tennis action in style”. 2007 marks the 9th consecutive year that Heineken has been the major naming rights sponsor of the Heineken NZ Men’s Tennis Open, and promises to showcase a stronger draw than ever seen before. Players featured this year include world number 7 Tommy Robredo and 2006 champion Jarkko Nieminen. For more information, check out http://www.heinekenopen.co.nz/.

From January 16, Nightlife will again be providing the entertainment at the Heineken Hotel within the Cirque De Soleil’s new setup for their latest production, Varekai, presented by Heineken itself. The Australasian tour of Varekai marks the first time the show has toured outside North America, where it played for 3.4 million people. While Nightlife’s involvement may not provide any acrobatic tricks or tennis prowess, we are incredibly proud to be a part of such amazing productions and events.

In the NZ Music scene this month, Brooke Fraser continues to top the charts with her sophomore effort Albertine, going double-platinum in its first 3 weeks of release! Her smash hit single “Deciphering Me” is still hanging around the top of the charts, and features this month in the latest NZX update. The Feelers are still holding strong with their single and album, both named “One World” featuring in the Top 20 on both charts. The single also features in the NZX update this month, and of course previous work by both The Feelers and Brooke Fraser is available on the HDMS™ now.

Lastly, remember to fill out your feedback forms and let us know what’s happening at your place - your feedback is what makes Nightlife Music + Video such a great system!

INTRODUCING DJ DJ CRAZY CRAIG

Despite his name, DJ Crazy Craig aka Craig Dawson, is a dedicated DJ who’s living his dream of mixing beats and gearing up the crowds.  For just over three years, Craig has been DJing in the Ruby Room within Perth’s illustrious Burswood Entertainment Complex.

“Some kids want to be a fireman or a doctor, I always wanted to be a DJ.” Starting as a teen at 17, Craig spent four years being trained by one of the industry’s most experienced DJ’s, Ray Liddelow who gave Craig his first apprenticeship.

In his leisure, Craig is an avid golfer enjoying the game to relax. He is also interested in computers and not to mention music and videos. Having DJ’d with Nightlife’s Hard Drive Music System (HDMS™) for around 12 months now, Craig has seen many patrons hit the dance floor to his party tunes.

His favourite all time song is Led Zeplin’s Stairway to Heaven and his song of the moment is Rock This Party by Bob Sinclar.

Check out DJ Crazy Craig at Burswood as he drives his HDMS™ hard to work the dance floor into frenzy of fresh n funky beats!

AT YOUR SERVICE

Over the next three months we will be featuring a three part series on Jukebox programming.  We will look at the Nightlife Jukebox list (a music list specially designed be used on Jukeboxes), Jukebox selection sets, and some Juke program modes such as Teasers, Intermittent and Juke Only.

Programming the content and scheduling the Juke selection sets is paramount to effectively enhancing the revenue of the Jukebox.  A good place to start when programming the Jukebox selection set is with the Jukebox list. This list has songs specifically selected that everyone should know. All artists in this list are popular, mainstream and are familiar to almost all patrons.  The only audio only tracks in this list are popular classics e.g. the “Gambler” by Kenny Rogers and “Play that Funky Music” by Wild Cherry, where the video is not available due to licensing.  We encourage all Nightlife customers to consider the Jukebox list as a “base list” for your jukebox selection sets – you can add other list to “flavour” if you want to e.g. Pub Rock, Classic Rock, Chillin.

Through regular QA of our client systems, we have discovered that clients often select All_Songs in the Juke selection sets instead of using the Jukebox list.  The difference between All_Songs and Jukebox is that all All_Songs is every single song on the system regardless of what it is, whether it be a Cafe, Irish, Grunge or Hip Hop. The Jukebox list takes out all the unfamiliar songs to the customer, which they would not usually spend their money on.  This in turn gives them a choice of music that they will know and continue to pay for.   Furthermore, Jukebox users will not be required to sort through 1000’s of songs to make a selection.   We have been told that if it’s too difficult for your patrons to find a recognisable song quickly they will simply give up and walk away!
We have also recently updated our billboards that can be used to let customers know about your Jukebox.  If you would like to receive our new updated Jukebox billboards or work on your Jukebox programming call the client services team on 1800 773 468 for help.
