Nightlife’s Manufacturing and Warehouse Department

This month we are going to take a look into the core of Nightlife, the Warehouse and Manufacturing Department. One of the bigger teams within the company, the department plays a vital role in making sure clients are happy; from receiving the customised order to building the product and ensuring quality throughout.

Rory
Rory: Manufacturing, Warehouse & Facilities Manager
Rory’s overall job is to plan and co-ordinate all manufacturing and warehouse activities with his very capable team. This covers everything from sourcing the raw materials, building and testing the products, through to final set-up and dispatch to our clients.
Trinity Trinity: Manufacturing Technician
Trinity’s talents are typically utilised in making jukeboxes. Working on two at a time, it generally takes two or three days for each pair. Trinity also helps out in the dispatching of systems along with some of his other colleagues. He’s also quite handy when it comes to moving heavy things!
Fraser Fraser: Manufacturing Technician
With six months experience building HDMS™ Fraser is now following in Trinity’s footsteps and training to make jukeboxes. With so many dimensions involved in building jukes, Fraser is sure to have his hands full in learning the ins and outs of building them.
Chris Chris G: Dispatch & Facilities Co-ordinator
Along with co-ordinating all incoming deliveries and outgoing shipments, Chris prepares HDMS™ and makes sure they are all up to a particular standard before handing them over to James for the client customisation. He also performs quality assurance checks on the jukeboxes as well as the HDMS™ and he updates the internal Nightlife equipment database, keeping the rest of the company up to date on which client has what equipment.
James James: Warehouse Operations Controller
James’ role is the link between a customer’s order and the dispatch of their system. Prepping each individual HDMS™ and making sure the right software and music library has been installed and is customised to suit each client’s requirements is what James does best. He also performs quality assurance checks and plenty of testing on every system before it leaves the company to make sure it is in top condition.
Brad Brad: Manufacturing Technician
Brad does a little bit of everything. From building jukeboxes and HDMS™ to inventory and stock maintenance. It’s due to his multi-tasking that the department never runs out of those all important parts to build systems.
Keith Keith: Manufacturing Technician
Keith makes sure there are sufficient supplies at all times, ensures that all the HDMS™ in stock are identical and up to Nightlife’s standards, checks drives to make certain they are efficient and that correct songs have been loaded onto the system. It’s all in a day’s work for Keith.
Luke Luke: Manufacturing Technician
Luke’s role stems off Keith’s and while Keith ensures the efficiency of drives, Luke scans them making absolutely sure they go out in perfect condition.
Josh Josh: Returns Co-ordinator
When any faulty item of equipment gets returned to Nightlife it is delivered straight to Josh whose job is to comprehensively test the equipment and diagnose the problem. Once the cause has been isolated we can investigate possible changes to the hardware or software to prevent similar problems occurring in the future.
Rishi Rishi: Warehouse Assistant
Rishi started with Nightlife many years back as a DJ and still comes in part-time to help out in the warehouse and carry out local service calls.
Chris Chris R: Parts Preparer
Chris also works for us part time and is responsible for the cleaning, modifying and general preparation of all the parts used on the manufacturing production line.
Thomas Thomas & John: Manufacturing Technicians
Our most recent additions to the team, Thomas and John are in the preliminary stages of learning the manufacturing process.

Introducing DJ Craig

If you’re out at the Gymea Tradies club, chances are you’ll bump into the fun-loving Craig Winstanley.

With his track record spanning back to his first gig at a friend’s 15th birthday pool party, Craig started moving onto the local RSL scene, backing live bands with no more than an old 3-in-1 stereo. At the tender age of 17, Craig scored his first job in a nightclub and from there moved rather quickly through backyard party’s, more clubs and blue light discos with the old umatic video cassettes.

On one of his many gigs, Craig came across the Nightlife system. Fascinated by the HDMS™, he phoned Nightlife and purchased the first of many systems. The rest, shall we say, is history.

His children, movies and his love for music are just a few of the things Craig loves about his life. At present, his favourite style of music is new chick rock and dance and his song of the moment is ‘I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker’ by Sandi Thom.

One person who Craig would have loved to have met is none other than Australia’s Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin who he believes was an inspiration in life.

When asked for his final comment, Craig’s reply signifies everything being a DJ is about,“Never say no and enjoy every moment in entertaining people. It’svery rewarding.”

TOOLS FOR BETTER MANAGING YOUR MUSIC

PART 3 - NEGATIVE LISTS

In the last two newsletters we have had articles outlining the difference between hidden songs & skipping songs. In this edition of ‘At Your Service’ we will complete the trio by explaining negative lists.

Activating a negative list is a proactive feature in the Nightlife HDMS™  that will automatically hide music that you have identified to be unsuitable for your venue.

For instance, if you run a restaurant and enjoy our HAPPY_HOUR list, but do not want any hip hop or rap, you can activate HIPHOPnRAP as a negative list. This will hide every HIPHOPnRAP song in your database, and will continue to hide any additional songs from this list as they are installed on new music updates. This allows you to play our HAPPY_HOUR list and be confident that music you deem as inappropriate for your venue will not be played.

Negative lists are maintenance free and are self updating with each music update. They will stop certain songs playing in the scheduler and will also hide them so they are unable to be selected by staff using the Nightlife interface or by your patrons using a jukebox.

This feature is effectively utilised in a major portion of our bowling sites and is active on some of our cafe style clients also. Negative lists allow for a greater customisation of your music without fear of inappropriate songs ruining the ambience in your venue.

If you would like more information on negative lists, feel free to contact our Client Services Department on 1800 773 468. We will be more than happy to help.

News from NZ

One must congratulate HANZ (Hospitality Association of New Zealand) this year: in their wisdom they have chosen Queenstown as the location for their annual conference, and in doing so picked the best ski season in living memory! Whether members will be able to take advantage of this remains to be seen, but Nightlife will be in attendance at the trade expo, to be held on September 26 & 27 - so make sure you call in and say hi! On display this year we’ll have the latest in HTML-billboards technology and the incredible DJ Pro beat mixing HDMS™. If these new features don’t melt the snow under ya boots nothing will!

On the music scene this month, the Black Seeds have continued to dominate the NZ album chart with ‘Into The Dojo’ even fighting off the release of Christina Aguilera’s latest to hold on to the top spot. Evermore has also continued their run of success behind their second album ‘Real Life’, even appearing on Rove Live to perform their hit single ‘Running’. Also hitting stores this month is ‘Hi-Score’, the greatest hits collection from the legendary Che Fu, formerly of Supergroove fame but now famous in his own right. Evermore, Che Fu and The Black Seeds are all available on the HDMS™ now!

Remember, we strive to keep the HDMS™ current and relative to your venue but we need your help! Included with each update is a feedback form which you can fill in with the top songs at your venue, any requests you have, or anything else you think we need to know. As an incentive to fill it out, the best one we receive before the end of September will receive a complimentary CD voucher to the value of $50 - so get writing!
