ARE YOU GETTING THE MESSAGE?

If you ask any venue owner they will tell you that advertising is essential in promoting their establishment. Nightlife not only provides a complete music management system, but also offers a comprehensive advertising solution. The HDMS™ features an inbuilt electronic billboard facility allowing venues to use their TV screens for in-house advertising. From promoting the evening’s drinks special to wishing guests a happy birthday, venues can generate easy-to-create billboards to get their message out quickly and effectively. Don’t just take our word for it, read what some of our clients have to say.

Spotted CowSpotted Cow - Toowoomba, Qld

“As the saying goes, a picture tells a thousand words, hence the billboard feature on Nightlife’s HDMS™ has become a major part of our promotional plan. It’s an effective tool for communicating with our customers. The ease with which files can be loaded onto the system is also a great feature of Nightlife and one that enhances the overall system”.
Spotted Cow won the Best Redeveloped Hotel award at the recent Queensland Hotel Awards.

Fringe Bar- Fortitude Valley, Qld

“We have found the Billboard function on the Nightlife system to be a very valuable marketing and entertainment tool.  With the ever changing licensing regulations, entertainment venues have to source new ways to promote events and ‘What’s On’ features.
The Billboard feature is a quick and effective tool that can be used to display advertising, menus and also social pictures which are popular with regulars.”

The Archer Hotel - North Adelaide, SA

“At the Archer, we use the Nightlife billboard system as an integral part of our promotions and marketing. From alerting customers of venue promotions and events, to reinforcing our brand identity, our use of the Nightlife billboard solution adds greatly to our customer experience, and keep us one step ahead of the competition.”

Elephant & Wheelbarrow - St Kilda, Vic

“Nightlife’s billboard advertising function is a magnificent promotional tool.We advertise meal deals, bands, sporting events and special events all through billboards. In a very busy venue like ours, it is so important to get key messages across to patrons so they are aware of what the venue has to offer. Nightlife’s billboards allow you to do that. It’s an inexpensive tool that promotes the venue and I would encourage all bar managers to maximize its potential.”

Coogee Bay Hotel - Coogee, NSW

“The Nightlife billboard option has offered us another dimension in advertising. Patrons are always encouraging technology in hotels and being able to put our latest ads on a 6m x 6m screen is fantastic!”

NEWS FROM NZ

For our North Island clients we introduce to you Tony Wheeler, who will be servicing our accounts on a nationwide basis. Tony is well known in the South Island where he resides and has been in the hospitality industry for many years now bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table.
Tony’s association with Nightlife dates back many years and he’s also active in the development of the business in the USA. We welcome you to pick Tony’s brains on his visit throughout the region. You will find not only a high skill level in terms of operating the HDMS™ system, building awesome billboards and developing great playlists (you may even twist his arm to do a little DJ work), but also a raft of ideas on promotions, advertising and service standards.
We trust you enjoy his visits and services and for those of you who have dealt with Matthew Bell over the years, Matthew is still with us albeit in a more limited capacity.
It’s also that time again when the licensing forms will be in the mail to you from APRA and PPNZ. To assist in alleviating the confusion which surrounds this process, we are sending out a letter of explanation in the courier pack to you. Any queries, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
Other than that, here’s hoping for some action in the rugby this month.

INTRODUCING DJ BURE

When it comes to experience DJ Bure definitely has plenty of it! Not only is he one of Nightlife’s in-house programming gurus but for the last 2 and a half years he’s been the resident DJ at one of Brisbane’s hottest bars, the Fringe Bar in Fortitude Valley. With 10 years of DJing experience under his belt, DJ Bure is also a producer who has recently produced remixes for celebrities such as Ricki-Lee, Katie Underwood, Levi (from Australian Idol) and Christian Alexander to name a few.
In his free time he enjoys hanging out with friends, playing soccer and soaking up the sun at the beach.  When we asked him who was the one person in the world he wanted to meet he said “Make it three! Keira Knightly, Liv Tyler and Natalie Portman!”
With his song of the month being Flaunt It by TV Rock F/Seany B, followed by Never Say Never by Vandalism, it’s fair to say that various styles of music grab this talented DJ’s attention. However, you can rest assured you will always catch him at the “Fringe” playing dirty, funky and electro house every Friday and Saturday night.

PROGRAMMING YOUR BILLBOARDS

Using the Scheduler to switch to Billboards

From last month’s newsletter you know how to switch your TV screens from music videos to billboards manually, but what if you wanted to program them so they automatically switched to billboards during certain times of the day?

The Scheduler function of your HDMS™ can do this for you!

Go to the Utilities menu and using the down arrow select Scheduler – then Edit Schedule.
Choose the day you wish to edit – let’s say Monday.

To set the time for when your billboards will take over your TV screens, press [Ins] (to Insert An Entry) and using your keyboard type the start-time. For 1:30pm just type 130 then [Enter]. Using the arrow key, select am or pm.

Scroll down the list to VIDEO_1 (Video 1 Output) and press [Enter].
Select the option you wish set the Video 1 Output to – in this case
2 = Billboards.

So in the example above – the Video 1 Output is set to change to billboards at 1:30pm

To set an end time – it’s the same procedure. Press [Ins] (to Insert An Entry) and using your keyboard type the end-time. For 2:30pm just type 230 then [Enter]. Using the arrow key, select am or pm. Scroll down the list to VIDEO_1 (Video 1 Output), and press [Enter] to go back to your normal display, select 0 = Computer Switched.

Setting the Clock

With daylight savings over – you’ve already changed your clocks in your work and home but did you remember to change the time in your HDMS™?
If you didn’t – then now is the perfect opportunity (especially if you’ve used the Scheduler!)
Go to the Utilities menu and using the down arrow select Set Date and Time. Using the arrow keys, highlight the value (for example Hour) that you wish to change. Press [Enter] to increase the value by 1 or [Shift] and [Enter] together to decrease the value.

New Release Highlights

If you haven’t heard the name Gnarls Barkley yet, you can almost hold your breath, it won’t be too long before it’s everywhere! Their debut single Crazy is already the stuff pop dreams are made of, making history by being the first to achieve a British number one based only on downloads. Gnarls Barkley is in fact a duo consisting of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Green. Having produced the second and latest Gorillaz album, Danger Mouse is of course the online sensation behind the infamous Jay-Z/Beatles mish mash Grey album. Surrounded by hip hop heavyweights, Cee-Lo is a member of Goodie Mob and the Dungeon Family (with OutKast). But it wasn’t until Don’t Cha, a song he wrote and produced, was selected to become the debut single for the Pussycat Dolls that he tasted pop success for the first time. He nailed the spooky vocal on Crazy in just one take... hear it on CX122 and EX122.

The California-based Red Hot Chili Peppers know exactly what it takes to make a hot radio hook these days, this time without sacrificing energy. The first single - Dani California - from their hotly anticipated ninth studio album Stadium Arcadium is typical Chili Peppers: the verse finds frontman Anthony Keidis rhyming “black bandana” with “sweet Louisiana” while drummer Chad Smith and bass-extraordinaire Flea work up a funk as only they can. Directed by Tony Kaye, the man behind the film American History X, the awesome video takes us through a time line of music videos featuring the band impersonating the likes of Motley Crue, Prince, The Beatles and even themselves!
Check it out on RX122.

2006 will be going down in history as the year when danced up covers and mish-mashed hits ruled the charts and the airwaves. Our releases this week feature a couple of goodens that are bound to either annoy you to pieces or spark your interest. Blondie Vs The Doors... yep, you read that correctly. Rapture meets Riders On The Storm to become Rapture Riders, a once illegal mashed spectacular from Mark Vidler, aka Go Home Productions. You’ll also find Horny As A Dandy, sound painful? Well it could be deemed that way as it is the Dandy Warhols’ Bohemian Like You mixed with Mousse T’s Horny... you make up your own mind. CX122 has it all!

Following a visit Down Under and a stunning set at the East Coast Blues & Roots festival, India.Arie offers up a new single called I Am Not My Hair. Featuring Akon, the lonely man himself, the song is another superb slice of soul about self respect and loving not how a person looks but what’s inside. Sure it isn’t an original lyrical idea for Ms Arie but her genuine spirit never fails to shine through every single time. See her teaming with Akon on CX122 and EX122.
