The Jukebox for a New Generation

The first thing that sets Nightlife's jukebox aside from the traditional corner pub juke is the fact that the venue gets to keep all the takings! In many cases this means being better off to the tune of thousands of dollars over time. Instead of the usual headaches over content and upkeep, the venue has finally gained control, and it is this control that transforms the juke into a profitable asset.

The jukebox uses Nightlife's powerful HDMS™ music management technology to allow customers to quickly sort and choose their favorite video clips by way of simple selection buttons. But because the jukebox is controlled automatically, your customers only see the selections from the variety of music styles that YOU have pre-programmed.

Imagine laid-back music during lunch, then party and dance clips for the evening; in fact you can set any mood that suits your venue. Unlike traditional jukeboxes, all the music is played in a seamless mixed format, ie. NO GAPS, just as if a professional DJ were there playing it for you.

When your customers are not feeding the jukebox, you can effectively maximise the use of your TVs by showing professional advertising messages via the easy-to-use billboards software. In between communicating these messages to your customers, suitably programmed background music will play, thus avoiding irritating 'dead spots'. The jukebox comes fully programmed to your specifications but this can easily be changed by the operator. You can even remove an unsuitable song with the press of one button.

Great news for smaller venues - now all these features and benefits have been packaged into an affordable stand-alone version of Nightlife Music Video's innovative HDMS™ jukebox - it even comes with its own sound system!

Yes, the stand-alone jukebox comes with two or four speakers (depending on the size of your room) and a powerful sub woofer; a simple to use advertising package for your TVs and is fully loaded with 2500 songs tailored specifically for your venue. You will receive 18 new songs a month (the best of the Top 40 or any other styles you prefer) and all software updates are included. Along with this, you will be covered by Nightlife's unbeatable service and support program.

After winning Best Video Product 2003 with the HDMS™ at The Club Show in the USA, Nightlife is excited to announce that our jukebox (which we’ve been exporting there for the past year) has been nominated for a similar award at the same show in 2005.

February New Releases

How can you not love Gwen Stefani? I know I’m a tad repetitive and say this everytime either Gwen or No Doubt release a new track, but you simply cannot deny her beauty, attitude, style and downright mega coolness. Here we have Rich Girl, another hot little pop number from her debut solo album Love, Angel, Music, Baby. So what’s so good about it? Well apart from being catchy as hell and having a whole bunch of “na-na-na’s”, it features a rap from Eve, production from Dr. Dre and a chorus lifted from (1964 musical) Fiddler On The Roof’s If I Were A Rich Man. What more do you want? Pirates and Japanese Harajuku girls? Well check out the clip released two weeks ago on CX107.

R&B is really making an impact on the Aussie music scene these days and Australia has finally unearthed a world class R&B star - Jade Macrae. Jade has been musical since the age of three, eventually ending up at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Rather than packing shelves to pay her way through school, she began singing with whoever needed a solid vocalist. She’s in a band with Jimmy Barnes’ daughter Mahalia and has performed with Jimmy himself, Renee Geyer, Disco Montego, Pnau and Endorphin. Her vocals have also featured on a German number 1 but now she directs her attention to her own compositions.

The second single from Jade, So Hot Right Now, is a hook-friendly groove about a girl’s night out complete with sleazy pick-up lines, line jumpers and annoying club doormen. It features the rap skills of Melbourne-based singer/producer/songwriter Israel who, incidentally, has also just released his own smooth, feel-good jam Old Skool Luv - a song about the good ol’ days of R&B when Bobby and Whitney were normal and before Boyz II Men were the punchline of a Michael Jackson joke. You’ll find both Aussie R&B stars - Jade and Israel on CR107.

Recently I was dragged along to legendary BrisVegas live venue The Zoo by a workmate to see underground hiphop sensation Atmosphere. Admittedly I didn’t know much of the music and really didn’t know what to expect. I was blown away! Backed by a tight four-piece band, Atmosphere brainchild Slug easily rivals the best of his hiphop peers and spat rhymes about “real” issues that were clever, complex and distinctly anti-gangsta. Turning down hundreds of record contracts and refusing to succumb to commercialism, Atmosphere have won fans worldwide thanks to Slug’s personal and poetic musings. This month we’ve released two new tracks, National Disgrace and Trying To Find A Balance on CX107 and CR107 respectively.

A Balance on CX107 and CR107 respectively. If you managed to catch the 2004 ARIA’s or the recent Tsunami Benefit Telethon, then you’d have heard of The Wrights - the Aussie supergroup who have re-recorded Evie, the classic rock trilogy by the Easybeats frontman Stevie Wright. The group was instigated by Jet vocalist Nic Cester and features a who’s who of current Aussie rock including Chris Cheney (The Living End), Kram (Spiderbait), Dave Laine (You Am I/The Pictures) and Pat Bourke (Dallas Crane). Nic takes lead vocal for part 1 with guest vocalists Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger) and Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon) singing on parts 2 and 3 respectively. Released to retail later this month, all proceeds will go to Stevie Wright and The Salvation Army. We’ve released audio only versions of all three parts as a bonus to RD subscribers with a HDMS™. All of a sudden it’s 1974 again!

DJ Throb - Jones Bar.
Jones Bar in Palmerston North, New Zealand throbs with around 700 groovers almost every night of the week and for a population the size of Palmerston North's, that's equivalent to filling Suncorp Stadium here in Brisbane if you were to do a per capita comparison. DJ Throb, aka Luke Waghorn is the man responsible for getting the venue rocking and has been a fan of Nightlife systems since he first broke into DJing around 4 years ago.

Luke's day job is engraving and 'Mr Minuting' and in his spare time he enjoys the company of his pet turtles, Mr & Mrs Bojangles! He's not really into cars: “They get you from A to B”, and is more concerned about having a decent sound system than what's under the bonnet.

Billie Jean is fave song; and fave artist of all time including the person Luke would most like to meet is, of course, Michael Jackson. Fave current song is Drop It Like It's Hot, Snoop Dogg.

News from NZ

It was a pleasure to recently host Nightlife guests from Australia and the USA (the big cheeses!). The purpose of the trip was to examine how our product performs in the New Zealand marketplace and the reasons for its success. This helps us to gain valuable insights which we can then apply to our other markets internationally.

For those of our clients who received a visit, thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. The guests were highly impressed with the friendliness of New Zealanders and were bemused by our forthrightness. Apparently we say it just how it is, no beating about the bush; an approach they found refreshing. They were also very impressed with the venues they visited, the themes which have evolved, design layouts, service etc etc.

Of course, we operate in one the most de-regulated liquor markets in the world, meaning that anyone with $1,500 for a licence can open a venue and go hard. This leads to a situation whereby there are a multitude of 'niche' operators, unique to themselves, impacting on the market in many ways. However, the guests concluded that the Nightlife venues were, on a whole, a cut above the rest of the industry and all enjoying majority market share.

As if we didn't already know that ....
Happy New Year!
