Aussie Artist Review
Missy Higgins
Here at Nightlife we
are always keen to help propel Australia's vast array
of talent into the industry and into the
public spotlight. This month is no exception as we
introduce another new talent sensation, Missy Higgins.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Missy Higgins was exposed
to a wide scope of music as a child, beginning with classical.
Then, as a teen, she went through the rock and grunge
stage until her older brother introduced her to jazz nd
invited her to sing with his band.
In 2001 at the tender age of 17,
Higgins won Triple J's "Victoria
Unearthed" competition while
still at high school. The winning
entry, ent i t l e d " A l l For
Believing", became one the
stations' most requested songs.
Later that year she was chosen
to accompany the likes of
Australian bands, Something
For Kate and Killing Heidi, on a
trip to East Timor where they
entertained the Australian peacekeeping troops.
After backpacking around
Europe in 2002, Higgins was ready to release her
debut EP in 2003. The Missy Higgins
EP contained four songs, of which "Greed For Your
Love"
and "Falling" were released as singles. "Greed
For Your Love" was voted one of the Hottest
100 songs of the year by the listeners of Triple
J.
Missy has just released
her new EP, entitled "Scar EP",
which debuted at number one on the national ARIA
chart a few weeks ago. From this EP comes the first
single "Scar".
Her debut album, entitled "The Sound Of White",
has just hit the stores and is sure to sell like
hotcakes.
You can find all three of Missy Higgins' single
releases on your Nightlife system:"Greed For
Your Love" was released on our update: ED93.
A live recording of her second single, "Falling" is on ED97.
Her latest single "Scar" can be found on three of our
updates: ED101, CX102, and JB86.
Missy Higgins can be found in the following lists:
"HAPPY_HOUR", "BAR_TUNES", "ALT_SOUNDS",
"MOR", "AUSSIE" and "JUKEBOX".
Missy Higgins is one of the brightest stars in the Aussie
talent department right now, and is sure to be here for the
long haul - please support!

By now you've
probably heard of the 'Band In A Bubble' experiment
which takes reality TV to a whole new level.
It sees Ben Quan, and Pete from Regurgitator
sealed inside a glass recording studio for
three weeks while they record their forthcoming
album. You can view the band 24/7 on the internet
or tune into the entire dedicated cable channel
for all the action. In the meantime, we've
got the funtastic Bong In My Eye and you'll
find it on RD102. |

of her covers album Soul Sessions, Joss delivers
her first batch of original material on Mind,

single is called You Had Me and was co-written
by Joss and produced by the same dynamic team
behind Soul Sessions. Watch this girl, she's

Already getting
heavy radio rotation is the new single from
Aussie urban sensation Cristian Alexanda. Simply
called Party Anthem, the single lives up to
its name with its funky groove, a killer hook,
and fun, infectious lyrics. The release of
his forthcoming, debut album, entitled Cristyle,
will cap off a cracking year for Cristian....
After the great reception of his slammin' debut
Misunderstood single , he was chosen to perform
with his live band to over 45,000 people as
a special support guest for Justin Timberlake.
Drawing heavy inspiration from classic R&B,
Cristian has defined himself as a world class
R&B/urban artist. Check him out on CR102.

One new band I'm
quite excited about is Dogs Die In Hot Cars.
Sure they have a funny name but they're
generating quite a hype and are already being
dubbed one of the most inventive and accessible
bands in Britain. There's not really
another band around like this Scottish 5-piece
who's oddball pop tunes are hooky and
catchy enough to keep everybody happy. The
band hits our shores for the first time this
month as support guest for Eskimo Joe on their
national tour. In the meantime have a look
at RD102 and you'll find I Love You ‘Cause
I Have To from their
forthcoming album Please Describe Yourself

DJ
Scra-Lay - Club House Bar.
DJ Scra-Lay's unusual name is a result of his
nickname 'Squirrel' - you work it out! Real
name Joel Horton, aged 21, apprentice
carpenter/builder who loves surfing, kart
racing and "plenty of wild party action". He gets to experience
the latter as the Club House Bar's DJ at Forest Lake Tavern in
Brisbane's south west. Joel's DJ career has always been with
Nightlife systems starting at a Blue Light disco around 3 years
ago and spending time at PJ O'Brien's in the city before
moving to Club House 12 months ago.

Fave song of the moment Four To
The Floor (White Duke
Remix) by Starsailor, and fave song (and artist)
of all time
Armand Van Helden's Hear My Name.
Joel loves the bonus songs and remixes on the CR & CX
updates and says the wider variety of music for party goers is
becoming more popular as the months go on.

Speaking - Exciting Changes To Party Playlists
Nightlife takes great pride in the way we constantly maintain
our lists, and to keep up with the ever-changing face of music,
we've made a few adjustments to your PARTY lists. When
used properly in conjunction with your Scheduler, these lists
give you a very powerful entertainment tool.
We have been gradually dripolating the 90's music out of
PARTY_OLD and PARTY_NEW to form a brand new list called
PARTY_90s which, as the name suggests, contains all the
cracking party tunes from the 90's.
Here's the new arrangement for party lists:
PARTY_NEW Now
contains party hits of the 21st century.
PARTY_90s As the name says, the best of the 90's.
PARTY_OLD Now covers the 70's and 80's.
ROCKnROLL All the jive tunes from the 50's and 60's.
As PARTY_90s is a brand new list, it will need to be activated
on your HDMS™ and added to your Scheduler. If you are not
sure how to do this simply call your toll-free customer support
number and one of our friendly staff will talk you through the
quick and easy process:

News From NZ
October bring us the Hospitality Showcase 2004
extravaganza, which includes an expo amongst other things.
This year it is being held at Skycity in Auckland
from the 4th to the 6 of October.
If you are contemplating coming to the event, please contact
us for complimentary passes. Nightlife will have a stand at the
expo and we will also be participating in the DB Auckland
experience, so it will be a good chance to catch
up with you on a social base as well.
The success of the NZX music update has meant we have
caught up on all the latest release Kiwi music. A big thanks
goes to the Australian programming team for helping us here.
From now on it is our intention to release NZX on an 'as
required' basis, supplementing the release with sought after
classics. These are difficult to procure and often poor quality,
but we persevere and can now resort to audio only when all
else fails.
Keep those feedback sheets coming and hang loose...
Stay tuned!
