Victoria - On The Move
This month our focus turns to Victoria, a state that is embracing music video more and more with the advent of Nightlife’s Hard Drive Music System (HDMS™). Over 100 venues across the state from huge nightclub complexes to cool urban lounges and suburban taverns are now using the HDMS™ to reflect their own unique styles and entertainment needs.

Graeme Flinders at Heat Nightclub in Crown Casino has a multi-zone system. “One part gives our main room visual impact early in the night, and later the billboards program is used to show digital photos of fashion parades, events and happy snaps. The other half of this versatile system looks after our front R&B area, which hosts a lot of functions that might require anything from 50 Cent to Café Del Mar.

At Melbourne University’s INU Bar, Peter Linden says, “We use Nightlife’s programmable Jukebox and it’s fantastic. Having a university crowd means that we have to be very particular about what is on the system and the students are quick to tell us when a ‘crap’ song comes on. By the same token, if there is a song we don’t like, it just disappears with one press of a key. I wish everything in life was like that!”

Justin Burton at the Eltham Hotel says, “The HDMS™ gives us all the advantages of a nightclub without the headaches. We don’t have flashing lights and thumping sound systems, but we do have the latest music video clips to entertain the local kids who use our room as a meeting place. We find that by controlling the music to appeal to our female patrons we attract a better crowd, which means better takings in the long run.”

Cougars is a sportsbar in the heart of Telstra Dome. Hundreds of sports fans flock there after each event to play pool with the Cougar Girls and soak up the atmosphere. Giant screens show the latest clips and old favourites. Manager John says, "With the HDMS™ we can match the music to the crowd. This is vital when you have so many different events being held at Telstra Dome.”

As you can see, four very different venues all using the HDMS™ in very different ways. These are by no means the only ways. There are Health Clubs, Bowling Alleys (like the new Strike Centre in the Queen Victoria Development) and Gents Clubs. The list goes on…

November New Releases

Summer is quickly approaching and it’s not just the weather that is heating up. Two weeks ago we rush-released Slow, the sexy new single from Kylie Minogue. This steamy video was shot in Barcelona and features lots of hard bodies rolling around in raunchy unison. Kylie herself writhes around in the middle of all the action and gives meaning to the title of her forthcoming 9th studio album... Body Language. Check it out from CRX92.

After an extended hiatus and appearing in a billion gossip headlines, Britney Spears finally gets back to what she is here for.... to make music! Adding heat to the smooch seen around the world, she once again collaborates with Madonna, but this time with minimal tongue. Co-written by Britney and produced by Redzone, Me Against The Music is the lead single from Brit’s 4th LP called In The Zone. It’s a pretty funky little party/dance number and we have released it this month on CR92.

Melbourne based producer J. Wess drops his hot new single this month called What Chu Want. The single features vocals from Kulaia and a rap from Digga (both of whom featured on his Top 20 debut single Bang This) plus introduces female rapper Lolly. The best thing about J. Wess and his crew is that they’re all from Melbourne and easily sound as good as, if not better than, anything from overseas. Play it from CR92.

It's not everyday a semi-underground/roots effort hip-hop act can take on a pop sound and maintain credibility in the hip-hop industry. However, the Black Eyed Peas are out to prove critics and fans wrong. With their third release, Elephunk, BEP not only take on a new member, but also a new twist to their music. The latest single from this is Shut Up, a funky, strained relationship drama that not only features Will.I.Am’s innovative production, but also allows newcomer Fergie to shine vocally. Be sure to do yourself a favour and check them out live at Big Day Out 2004 and from this month’s CR92.

Releasing his fourth solo album next month is former Fugee Wyclef Jean. The album entitled Preacher’s Son (a tribute to his late father) has a message, but as ‘Clef says “it’s a party!” It features guests Missy Elliott, Monica, Santana, Wayne Wonder and Elephant Man. The first single lifted from the set is the lyrically brilliant Industry and is possibly the first that addresses the unnecessary rivalries consuming hiphop right now. Give it a play from ED92.

If The Neptunes have got the production side of things on lock, then it’s got to be Outkast who are the most innovative and daring rhymers in the hip-hop business right now. They have just released a double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below with Andre 3000 and Big Boi taking one CD each. This gives each the space to express themselves fully whilst remaining faithful to the Outkast flag. Speakerboxxx is Big Boi’s set and The Love Below sees Andre 3000 taking the spotlight with his single Hey Ya! We released it two weeks ago on CRX92.

DJ Disco Goblin - Royal Hotel, Queanbeyan, NSW.
Paul Bird started playing music as an escape from his day job in the Navy and very quickly made some good industry contacts in Sydney. After a number of gigs Paul decided to DJ full time, and this eventually led to his current job at the Royal Hotel in Queanbeyan where, as Disco Goblin, he’s been controlling the Level One dancefloor with Nightlife Music Video for the last 18 months.

At 27, Paul plays Rugby Union and Gridiron and pursues computer studies in his spare time. When asked for his favourite song and artist, he declined to specify, saying he likes ‘everything’, but being a red-blooded male couldn’t help mentioning that the clip ‘Satisfaction’ is “pretty hot”!

According to Paul, “Hell is having to play rubbish music over and over again. I look forward to nights that I can play a wide range of styles and everyone enjoys them.”

Technically Speaking - SHORT CUT AND FUNCTION KEYS
Having trouble remembering all those great short cut or function keys that make getting around your HDMS™ so easy? Have a look in Function Help which is in the Utilities menu…

Function Help will remind you of these key presses, and you may discover some that you are not familiar with eg:

[Ctrl][B] will take you straight to the billboards program. [Ctrl][H] will take you from the billboards program back to the HDMS™ program.

[Ctrl][V] allows you to adjust volume (if you change the volume and then reboot, the new volume will be saved).

When you are in a search screen [Ctrl][S] will send your search results to a floppy disk as a word document. This allows you to look at your search results on another PC and even print them out.

[F12] will halt the HDMS™ at the end of the current song, and will start the system playing again after it has been halted. [Shift] [F12] will immediately halt the HDMS™ .

These are just a few of the many useful function keys that are outlined in Function Help in Utilities.

For help with these or for any assistance with your Nightlife system please call our Customer Support Centre toll-free on 1800 773 468.
