‘Twas the summer of sport! It’s been a BIG few months for crowdDJ® as we got involved in some epic sporting events and brought crowd-sourced music to the masses.
NEON Bar and Kitchen
First off NEON at Adelaide Festival Centre, a 10 week pop up bar and kitchen across the river from Adelaide Oval. Situated along the new northern promenade and with a great Miami disco vibe, NEON has proven a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike. crowdDJ was along for the party, allowing customers to pick their favourite music while sipping cocktails or having a bite to eat, while also running the background music around live acts.
Brisbane Heat home games at the Gabba
Up to Queensland now and the Big Bash League (BBL), where we supported Brisbane Heat with their 17/18 campaign at the Gabba. During each T20 cricket match, fans were able to download the free crowdDJ app or use crowdDJ Kiosks placed around the stadium to vote for their favourite songs (including from their Spotify library).
The activations included a live crowdDJ scoreboard on the big-screen that showed the top three tracks as voted by the crowd. This gave fans immediate feedback on what would play next and an opportunity to influence the outcome by voting for their song – or rallying their friends and family to vote as well. Over the 5 home games of the season, the crowdDJ app was downloaded almost 2000 times, and over 15,642 votes were registered!
Karaoke at the Australian Open? Yes indeed, the tennis grand slam also received some crowdDJ lovin’ over summer as we took over a shipping container to create a private karaoke room. Located beside Hisense Arena, as part of the Tokyo Alley precinct the space witnessed over 183 hours of performances from sports lovers, with the most popular artists being Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and of course Britney Spears. Who would have thought tennis and karaoke would be such a great match.
Stadiums and festivals
The summer of sport isn’t over yet! With the ability to program music for a wide variety of spaces, we’ve made the move into sporting arenas, starting with Suncorp Stadium. Throughout the A-League season we activated Suncorp’s Garden Bar during Brisbane Roar matches. Punters had the opportunity to pick a song as well as their beverage.
Keep your eyes peeled for more music and sports collaborations as we gear up for the NRL Season, providing match day soundtracks for both the Sharks and new signing, The Gold Coast Titans. We’re also involved in a range of activities at Festival 2018, the Arts and Cultural festival being staged throughout various locations during the Commonwealth Games.
